So both Godzilla and The Blair Witch Project are in my top 20 movies of all time. Is it no surprise, then, that Cloverfield just tore its way near to the top of the list? Just got back from seeing this movie; I'll be seeing it again tomorrow. It's pretty much what would happen if they took a magic cable, jammed one end into my brain, aimed the other end at a movie screen, and said, "Think about a monster attacking a city, James!"
Best movie of 2008. I feel fairly safe making that pronouncement even though most of the year's still to come.
OH: And if anyone out there's wary about seeing this movie because they might think it's a cheesy or corny movie, like one of the Godzilla movies from the late '60s, never fear. This thing is about as grim and gritty as kaiju movies get.
